on the first day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven bound
as an apprentice by John H Hodson Z H Rosse and Levin Jones Justices of the Orphans' Court for
Dorchester County; unto Zachariah Skinner until she the said Mary Ellen Nicols shall arrive to
the age of sixteen years; (under act of 1839)  And the said Zachariah Skinner being here present
in Court to take the said Mary Ellen Nicols as an apprentice until she shall arrive to said age
And the said Zachariah Skinner doth also on his part acknowledge himself bound and by
these presents doth contract promise and agree to teach said apprentice or cause her to be taught
plain serving and housework and to supply her with suitable clothing and maintenance during
her apprenticeship; and when free to give her the sum of ten dollars in Case and two suits of
clothing:  And the said Zachariah Skinner doth further contract promise and agree to give
his said apprentice when free the sum of ten Dollars in Case in lieu of Education in addition
to the freedom dues above required to be given.   In Testimony Whereof we hereunto
subscribe our names and affix our seals to this Indenture this first day of June in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven.

Thomas Hooper      Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Mortgage Deed
√       From   xd       was received and recorded on the 11th day of June Anno Domini 1857 to wit
Theodore Phillips     United States of America. State of Maryland to wit:  whereas Theodore
                               Phillips is justly and bona fide indebted to Thomas Hooper in the
sum of One hundred and eighty five Dollars and eighty six Cents for work and materials furnished
in repairs done to the Schooner "Increase" and has made and passed to said Hooper his
two promissory notes bearing even date herewith one for ninety two Dollars and eighty one Cents
payable at six months after date the other for ninety three Dollars and five Cents payable
at nine months after date both payable to the order of Thomas Hooper and to secure the
payment of said notes at maturity these presents are executed.  Now Know all men by
these presents that I Theodore Phillips Sole owner of Consideration of the sum of One
Hundred & eighty five Dollars & eighty six Cents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
have granted bargained sold assigned transferred and set over and by these presents
do grant bargain sell assign transfer and set over unto the said Thomas Hooper his executors
administrators or assigns all that Schooner or Vessel Called the "Increase" of Vienna M.d
together with all her masts Yards Sails Rigging Anchors Cables Boats tackle apparel
and appurtenances as she now lies and is more particularly described in a Certificate of Enrollment
granted her at the port of Vienna Md in the following words:

"No 42 forty one Enrollment in conformity to an Act of the Congress of the United States
(Seal)                 of America entitled "An Act for enrolling and licensing Ships or Vessels to be employed
(of the)               in the Coasting Trade & Fisheries and for regulating the same Theodore Phillips
(Treasury)          of Somerset County State of Maryland owner and Master having taken or subscribed
(of the)               the oath required by the said Act and having sworn that he is a citizen of the United
(United States)   States sole owner of the Ship or vessel called the "Increase" Vienna M.d whereof Theodore Phillips
                          is at present Master and as he hath sworn is a Citizen of the United States and
(Seal)                 that the said Ship or Vessel was built in Somerset County State of Maryland during
(of the)               the Year Eighteen Hundred and fifty three as per Enrollment No 17 granted at this office
