177 By the County Commissioners Dorchester County June 26 1855 This Bond approved By order Test William Rea clerk C. D. C. Richard Keene Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following paid from xd receipt was received and recorded on the 3d day of September Solomon F. Kirwan in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred Administrator and Fifty five To wit: Received December 15th 1854 of John Richard Keene the Sum of Five hundred and ninety five Dollars for negro Boy Jacob Slave for life sold by me as Administrator of Saml. J. Meekins Decd. By order of the Orphans Court on the 14 day of December 1855 as reference thereto will more fully show Given under my hand Solomon F. Kirwan $595 Admr. of Samuel J. Meekins Decd Delivered the 3d day of September 1855 to Samuel A. Meekins Edward G. Sturgeon and others Be it remembered and it is hereby certified √ From that the following Mortgage was received The Farmers and Merchants and recorded on the 10th day of September Steam Boat Company 1855 To wit: This Indenture made this 19th day of September in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty four between the Farmers and Merchants Steam Boat Company of Nanticoke River of the first part and Edward G. Sturgeon and James Murray and Henry R. Hazlehurst of the city of Baltimore in the State of Maryland of the Second part Whereas the said party of the first part is indebted to the said parties of the second part in the sum of twelve Thousand dollars being the unpaid portion of the purchase money of the Steamboat Kent which by Bill of Sale of Even date herewith has been Conveyed to the said party of the first part which sum it is the desire of the party of the first part to secure the payment of cotemporaneously with the execution of the said Bill of Sale wherefore these presents are Executed Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of five dollars paid at and before the execution ^of^ these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold assigned and conveyed and by these presents do bargain and sell assign and convey unto the Said parties of the second part. The Steam Boat called the Kent which was built in Baltimore in the year eighteen hundred and fifty four and which is enrolled according to law at the port of Baltimore as appears by the enrollment thereof dated on the fifth day of July in the year eighteen hundred and fifty four and numbered one hundred and fifty Three Together with her engines and machinery Tackle boats apparel and furniture To Have and To Hold the said Steam Boat Kent with the appurtenances as aforesaid to the said parties of the second part their Executors administrators and assigns in the proportion of three fourths to the said Ed. G. Sturgeon and one fourth to the said Murray and Hazlehurst as tenants in common Sent to William T. Vickers September 11th 1855 by John Serman |
