Former Art. 70B, § 26(g), which defined "[g]rantee" to mean a local
government agency, is deleted as unnecessary because only a local
government unit may receive a grant under this part.
10-502. GRANTS.
(A) APPLICATIONS; PURPOSES.
A UNIT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT MAY APPLY TO THE SECRETARY FOR A GRANT
FOR THE COST OF:
(1) PLANNING, DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, ACQUISITION, CONVERSION,
RENOVATION, OR IMPROVEMENT OF A PROJECT;
(2) DEVELOPING A MASTER PLAN;
(3) PURCHASING CAPITAL EQUIPMENT FOR A PROJECT;
(4) LEASING A PROJECT AS A LESSEE OR LESSOR; OR
(5) MAKING A SUBGRANT TO A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FOR A
PURPOSE DESCRIBED IN ITEM (1), (2), (3), OR (4) OF THIS SUBSECTION.
(B) APPROVAL OF APPLICATIONS.
IF THE SECRETARY APPROVES AN APPLICATION FOR A GRANT, THE SECRETARY
SHALL FILE WITH THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS A REPORT DESCRIBING THE SCOPE
OF THE PROJECT AND A RECOMMENDATION THAT THE BOARD MAKE THE
REQUESTED FUNDS AVAILABLE.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 70B, §§ 28 and 27(a) and (b).
In subsection (a)(2) of this section, the former references to a
"comprehensive" master plan and "projects in a political subdivision" are
deleted as unnecessary in light of the definition of "master plan".
In subsection (a)(4) of this section, the reference to "leasing a project as a
lessee or lessor" derived from former Art. 70B, § 28(5) is included to correct
an obvious omission in former Art. 70B, § 27(a).
In subsection (b) of this section, the reference to an "application for a
grant" is substituted for the former reference to the "project and project
plans" for clarity and consistency with the terminology used in subsection
(a) of this section.
Former Art. 70B, § 28, which authorized a grant to be used to "[Convert
public buildings or parts of public buildings to senior citizen activities
centers", is deleted as unnecessary in light of subsection (a)(1) of this
section, which authorizes a grant for the cost of "conversion ... of a project".
Defined terms: "Capital equipment" § 10-501
"Cost" § 10-501
"Grant" § 10-501
