May 17, 2007
The Honorable Michael E. Busch
Speaker of the House
State House
Annapolis, MD 21401
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, today I have
vetoed House Bill 1434 - Election Law - Presidential Primary Election Date.
This bill alters the date of the statewide primary, election in the year in which the
President of the United States is elected from the first Tuesday in March to the second
Tuesday in February. The bill also makes miscellaneous technical and clarifying
changes to conform to the change in the date for the statewide presidential primary
election, including provisions relating to specified deadlines and the certification of
specified candidates by the Secretary of State.
Senate Bill 1025, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me,
accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House
Bill 1434.
Sincerely,
|
