(g) (1) A person sentenced under this section may petition for and be
granted parole if the person:
(i) is at least 65 years old; and
(ii) has served at least 15 years of the sentence imposed under
this section.
(2) The Maryland Parole Commission shall adopt regulations to
implement this subsection.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2007.

(Senate Bill 175)
AN ACT concerning
Juveniles - Mentoring Program - "Maryland Rising"
FOR the purpose of requiring the Secretary of Juvenile Services to establish a
statewide program of volunteer mentors for children in detention or who have
spent a certain amount of time in a committed placement; requiring the
Program to try and place mentors in a certain manner; establishing that the
Program shall be called "Maryland Rising"; establishing the purpose of the
Program; requiring the Department of Juvenile Services to develop a statewide
network of State and community agencies, volunteer organizations, and other
groups to recruit mentors; providing for the role of mentors; authorizing the
Department to adopt certain regulations; and generally relating to a mentoring
Program in the Department of Juvenile Services called "Maryland Rising".
