SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2004.

AN ACT concerning

Education - Carroll County Board of Education - Salaries

FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Chairman and other members of the
Carroll County Board of Education; and providing that this Act does not apply to
the salary of the incumbent members of the Carroll County Board of Education.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

3-403.                                                                                                                   

(a)     The Chairman of the County Board is entitled to receive [$3,500] $6,000
annually as compensation and the other members are entitled to receive [$3,000]
$5,000 each annually as compensation.

(b)     The compensation of the Chairman and the members described in
subsection (a) of this section shall be paid in four equal quarterly installments.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III, §
35 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to
the salary or compensation of the Carroll County Board of Education members in
office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the
