May 26, 2004
The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr.
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis MD 21401
Dear Mr. President:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed Senate Bill 95 - Election Law - Polling Places - Access by Minors.
This bill alters the maximum age at which an individual may accompany an adult in
a voting room and voting booth at a polling place, under specified circumstances. It
prohibits more than two individuals under the age of 13 from accompanying a voter in
a voting room or voting booth under specified circumstances, and also makes stylistic
changes.
House Bill 18, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May
11, 2004, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign
Senate Bill 95.
Very truly yours,
Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr.
Governor
