AN ACT concerning

Law Enforcement Officers' Pension System - DROP - Creditable Service

FOR the purpose of requiring a member of the Law Enforcement Officers' Pension
System to have a certain number of years of creditable service to be eligible to
participate in the Deferred Retirement Option Program; providing that one of
the options for selecting the period of participation in the Deferred Retirement
Option Program be based on a certain amount of creditable service; and
generally relating to the creditable service required to participate in the
Deferred Retirement Option Program for a member of the Law Enforcement
Officers' Pension System.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - State Personnel and Pensions

26-401.1.

(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.

(2)     "DROP" means the Deferred Retirement Option Program established
under this section.

(3)     "DROP member" means a member of the Law Enforcement Officers'
Pension System who:

(i) is eligible to participate in the DROP as provided in subsection
(c) of this section; and

(ii) elects to participate in the DROP as provided in subsection (e) of
this section.
