salary of $45,000 and be allowed the actual operating costs of the Sheriffs office,
including the maintenance of automobiles.

(II)     THE SHERIFF OF DORCHESTER COUNTY SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL
SALARY OF:

1.       $62,500 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2006:

2.       $63,500 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2007

3.       $64,500 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2008; AND

4.       $65,500 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2009.

(III)   FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2010 AND THEREAFTER, THE SHERIFF OF
DORCHESTER COUNTY SHALL RECEIVE THE SAME ANNUAL SALARY AS PAID IN 2009.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III, §
35 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to
the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Dorchester County in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Sheriff of Dorchester County shall take effect at the beginning of
the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2004.

(House Bill 1445)

AN ACT concerning

Howard County - Public School Facilities Surcharge
Ho. Co. 7-04

FOR the purpose of requiring the County Council for Howard County to impose a
certain public school facilities surcharge on certain residential construction;
providing that the school facilities surcharge must be adjusted for inflation
under certain circumstances; requiring a certain applicant to pay the school
facilities surcharge at a certain time; prohibiting the school facilities surcharge
from being construed to be a settlement cost; requiring revenue collected from
the school facilities surcharge to be used to pay certain expenses; providing for
the rebate of the school facilities surcharge under certain circumstances;
providing for an annual adjustment for inflation of a certain exemption amount;
requiring the County Executive to prepare a certain report; requiring the
Howard County Office of Finance to make a certain calculation and cause a
certain notice to be published each year; defining certain terms; and generally
relating to a public school facilities surcharge in Howard County.
