(Senate Bill 252)
AN ACT concerning
Baltimore City - Sheriff - Salary
FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Sheriff of Baltimore City; providing that
this Act does not apply to the salary or compensation of the incumbent Sheriff of
Baltimore City; and generally relating to the salary of the Sheriff of Baltimore
City.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
Section 2-309(d)(1)(i)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-309.
(d) (1) (i) In Baltimore City, the Sheriff shall receive an expense
allowance of $1,000 per year and a salary of:
1. [$62,000] $70,000 in calendar year [1999] 2002;
2. [$64,000] $73,000 $70,000 in calendar year [2000] 2003;
3. [$67,000] $73,000 $72,000 in calendar year [2001] 2004;
4. [$70,000] $75,000 $72,000 in calendar year [2002] 2005;
AND
5. $74,000 IN CALENDAR YEAR 2006 and thereafter.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Baltimore City in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Sheriff of Baltimore City shall take effect at the beginning of the
next following term of office.
