Meeting the needs of Maryland children who rely on child support should be our first
priority. Extending the seven-year pilot program will not help us meet this goal. For
the above reasons, I have vetoed House Bill 495.

AN ACT concerning
Department of Human Resources - Welfare Reform and Child Support
Enforcement - Extension Repeal of Sunset
FOR the purpose of extending for 3 years repealing the termination date of certain
provisions of law relating to the Child Support Enforcement Privatization Pilot
Program; altering the name and scope of the Child Support Enforcement
Privatization Pilot Program; requiring the Secretary of Human Resources to
establish certain demonstration sites according to a certain schedule; requiring
the Department of Human Resources to adopt certain regulations; providing for
the term of a certain privatization contract between the Department and a
private contractor; providing for the termination of this Act; and generally
relating to the Child Support. Enforcement Privatization Pilot Program.
