non-hunting activities can occur in the State's natural areas without the fear of
nearby hunting. Many naturalist societies routinely schedule nature field trips only
on Sundays during hunting season to be certain they will avoid the interference and
potential danger from hunting. I have received numerous letters from persons across
Maryland opposing House Bill 9 because they would lose the certainty of having one
weekend day during hunting season when their families and children can safely enjoy
the outdoors.
For the above reasons, I have vetoed House Bill 9.

AN ACT concerning
Deer Management Plans - Increased Harvest
FOR the purpose of requiring the Department of Natural Resources to manage the
harvest of deer in certain ways; extending the length of a certain deer hunting
season to a certain number of days, including a certain number of Sundays
Sunday; exempting a certain region from a certain Sunday hunting provisions
provision; requiring the Department to establish a certain nonresident license;
prohibiting fees for a certain license and certain stamps and bonus deer stamps
in excess of certain amounts; authorizing the Department's deer management
plans in certain areas to include certain methods under certain circumstances;
authorizing the donation of certain meat to certain organizations and the
payment of certain costs in certain ways; requiring the Department to report
and make recommendations to certain persons at a certain time regarding
certain aspects of its deer management plans; defining certain terms; and
generally relating to certain deer management plans for increased harvest.
