In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed Senate Bill 572 - Arthritis Prevention and Control Act.
This bill establishes the Arthritis Prevention and Control Program within the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The purpose of the program is to raise
public awareness, educate consumers and educate and train health professionals,
teachers and providers about arthritis. This bill requires the existing Advisory
Council on Arthritis and Related Diseases to advise the Department on developing
and implementing the program.
House Bill 247, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me,
accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate
Bill 572.
Sincerely,
Parris N. Glendening
Governor
Senate Bill No. 572

the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene in administering the Program;
