This bill requires the State Highway Administration to designate the portion of
Maryland Route 157 known as the Peninsula Expressway as the Vietnam Veterans
Highway. House Bill 111, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me,
accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate
Bill 142. Sincerely, Parris N. Glendening
Governor Senate Bill No. 142 AN ACT concerning State Highways - Designation - Vietnam Veterans Highway FOR the purpose of requiring the State Highway Administration to designate a
certain highway as the Vietnam Veterans Highway; and generally relating to
State highway designations. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Article - Transportation
Section 8-650 Annotated Code of Maryland
(2001 Replacement Volume) SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article - Transportation 8-650. (A) The Administration shall designate the portion of Maryland Route 24
located between the U.S. Route 1 Bypass and U.S. Route 40 as the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial Highway. (B) THE ADMINISTRATION SHALL DESIGNATE THE PORTION OF MARYLAND
ROUTE 157 KNOWN AS THE PENINSULA EXPRESSWAY AS THE VIETNAM VETERANS
HIGHWAY. SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2002.
