CHAPTER 359
(House Bill 325)
AN ACT concerning
District Court Jurisdiction - Enforcement of Local Consumer Protection
Codes
FOR the purpose of establishing that the District Court has exclusive original civil
jurisdiction in a petition filed by a county or municipality for enforcement of
local consumer protection codes for which equitable relief is provided.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
4-401.
Except as provided in § 4-402 of this subtitle, and subject to the venue
provisions of Title 6 of this article, the District Court has exclusive original civil
jurisdiction in:
(8) A petition filed by a county or municipality, including Baltimore City,
for enforcement of local health, housing, fire, building, electric, licenses and permits,
plumbing, animal control, CONSUMER PROTECTION, and zoning codes for which
equitable relief is provided;
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2002.
