(xii) who was employed by the Military Department as a firefighter
at Martin State Airport on June 30, 2001, and who elects membership on or before
December 31, [2001] 2002.
(2) To elect to be a member of the Law Enforcement Officers' Pension
System, an individual shall file a written application with the State Retirement
Agency.
(3) If an individual does not elect membership during the applicable
period specified under paragraph (1) of this subsection, the individual may not
become a member of the Law Enforcement Officers' Pension System.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 2002.

(House Bill 218)
AN ACT concerning
Education - High School Diplomas - Korean Conflict Veterans
FOR the purpose of allowing honorably discharged veterans of the Korean Conflict to
obtain a high school diploma by applying to certain county boards if the
individual withdrew from a certain full-time public or private school under
certain circumstances; and generally relating to high school diplomas.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Education
7-206.1.
(a) An individual honorably discharged from military service may apply to
obtain a high school diploma if the individual withdrew from a regular full-time
public or private school accredited by the State Board during the individual's senior
year in high school to enlist in the armed forces of the United States during World
War II OR THE KOREAN CONFLICT.
