2-309.
(g) (1) The Sheriff of Caroline County shall receive an annual salary of
[$49,500] $55,000.
(2) The Sheriff may appoint deputy sheriffs and other personnel in
accordance with the County budget.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Caroline County in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Sheriff of Caroline County shall take effect at the beginning of
the next following term of office.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2002.

CHAPTER 347
(House Bill 130)
AN ACT concerning
Sidewalks or Bicycle Pathways - Priority Funding Areas - Sharing of
Construction Costs
FOR the purpose of establishing that if a sidewalk or bicycle pathway is being
constructed or reconstructed within one of certain areas designated as a priority
funding area, with a certain exception, in response to a request from a local
government, and the adjacent roadway is not being concurrently constructed or
reconstructed, the cost to construct or reconstruct the sidewalk or bicycle
pathway shall be shared by the State and the local government under certain
circumstances in a certain manner.
