SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Estates and Trusts
2-108.
(o) (1) Each judge of the Court for Howard County shall receive annual
compensation OF $8,000, to be paid monthly!, as follows:
(i) $5,800 for the calendar year 1998; and
(ii) $6,380 for the calendar year 1999 and each calendar year
thereafter].
(2) The annual salary of the Chief Judge IS $9,500, to be paid monthly[, is

as follows:
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
(i) $6,728 for the calendar year 1998; and
(ii) $7,400 for the calendar year 1999 and each calendar year

|
|
|

thereafter].

|
|
|
|
|
(3) Each judge shall also receive an expense allowance, in addition, up to
$50 per month, for personal expenses incidental to the judge's duties, to be paid by the
Treasurer of Howard County each month [upon] ON presentation of an itemized
voucher.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Chief Judge or any associate judge of the
Orphans' Court for Howard County in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary or compensation of the Chief Judge or any
associate judge of the Orphans' Court for Howard County shall take effect at the
beginning of the next following term of office.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect October 1, 2002.
