H.B. 747                                                 VETOES

to test certain products and make certain inspections to determine compliance;
requiring the Administration to work with the Department of Housing and
Community Development regarding certain inspections; authorizing the
Administration to investigate certain complaints; authorizing the Attorney
General to institute certain enforcement proceedings; providing for certain
penalties; providing for the application of this Act; requiring the Administration
to monitor a certain study, to conduct a certain assessment, and to report by a
certain date; defining certain terms; requiring the Governor, upon a certain
contingency, to reassign a certain obligation under this Act to a certain State
agency; providing for the termination of a portion of this Act; and generally
relating to energy efficiency standards for certain products.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - State Government

9-2006.

(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

(2) (I) "CEILING FAN" MEANS A NONPORTABLE DEVICE THAT IS
SUSPENDED FROM A CEILING FOR THE PURPOSE OF CIRCULATING AIR VIA THE
ROTATION OF FAN BLADES.

(II) (3) "CEILING FAN LIGHT KIT" MEANS THE EQUIPMENT
DESIGNED TO PROVIDE LIGHT FROM A CEILING FAN. THIS EQUIPMENT, WHICH CAN
BE:

1. (I) INTEGRAL, SUCH THAT THE CEILING FAN LIGHT KIT
EQUIPMENT IS HARDWIRED TO THE CEILING FAN; OR

2. (II) ATTACHABLE, SUCH THAT AT THE TIME OF SALE
THE CEILING FAN LIGHT KIT EQUIPMENT IS NOT PHYSICALLY ATTACHED TO THE
CEILING FAN, BUT MAY BE INCLUDED INSIDE THE CEILING FAN PACKAGE AT THE
TIME OF SALE OR SOLD SEPARATELY FOR SUBSEQUENT ATTACHMENT TO THE FAN.

(3) (4) "COMMERCIAL CLOTHES WASHER" MEANS A SOFT MOUNT
FRONT-LOADING OR SOFT MOUNT TOP-LOADING CLOTHES WASHER THAT IS
DESIGNED FOR USE IN:

(I) APPLICATIONS WHERE THE OCCUPANTS OF MORE THAN ONE
HOUSEHOLD WILL BE USING IT, INCLUDING MULTIFAMILY HOUSING COMMON
AREAS AND COIN LAUNDRIES; OR
