Senate Bill No. 703

AN ACT concerning

Availability of Audiology and Speech and Language Speech Language

Services
Task Force to Study the Availability of Audiology and Speech-Language

Services

FOR the purpose of establishing a Study Panel on the Availability of Audiology and
Speech and Language Speech Language Services for children in public school
programs; establishing the membership of the Study Panel and its duties;
providing for the staff of the Study Panel; requiring the Study Panel to report its
findings and recommendations to certain committees of the General Assembly
on or before a certain date; providing for the termination of this Act; and
generally relating to the study of the availability of audiology and speech and
language speech language services in the public schools of the State.

FOR the purpose of establishing the Task Force to Study the Availability of Audiology
and Speech-Language Services; specifying the composition, powers, and duties
of the Task Force; providing for the staffing of the Task Force; requiring the Task
Force to report its findings and recommendations to certain committees of the
General Assembly by a certain date; providing for the termination of this Act;
and generally relating to the Task Force to Study the Availability of Audiology
and Speech-Language Services.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That:

(a) It is the intent of the General Assembly to establish a Study Panel to study
the availability of audiology and speech and language speech language services for
children in kindergarten through grade 12 in public school programs.

(b) (a) There is a Study Panel on Task Force to Study the Availability of
Audiology and Speech and Language Speech-Language Services for children in the
K-12 public school programs kindergarten through grade 12 in the public schools in
the State.

(c) (b) The Study Panel Task Force consists of the following 17 members:

(1)     two Two members of the Senate of Maryland, appointed by the
President of the Senate;

(2)     two Two members of the House of Delegates, appointed by the
Speaker of the House;

(3)     the The State Superintendent for the Maryland Board of Education of
Schools, or a the State Superintendent's designee; and

(4)     a representative of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education
(MABE), appointed by the Association MABE;
