SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Health - General
SUBTITLE 8. HEALTH CARE SERVICES DISPARITIES PREVENTION.
20-801.
IN ADOPTING THIS SUBTITLE, THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY INTENDS TO
ENCOURAGE COURSES OR SEMINARS THAT ADDRESS THE IDENTIFICATION AND
ELIMINATION OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES DISPARITIES OF MINORITY POPULATIONS
AS PART OF:
(1) CURRICULUM COURSES OR SEMINARS OFFERED OR REQUIRED BY
INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION;
(2) CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTH CARE
PROVIDERS; AND
(3) CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS OFFERED BY HOSPITALS FOR
HOSPITAL STAFF AND HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS.
20-802.
(A) (1) AN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE STATE THAT
INCLUDES IN THE CURRICULUM COURSES NECESSARY FOR THE LICENSING OF
HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS IN THE STATE SHALL MAY INCLUDE IN THE
CURRICULUM COURSES OR OFFER SPECIAL SEMINARS THAT ADDRESS THE
IDENTIFICATION AND ELIMINATION OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES DISPARITIES OF
MINORITY POPULATIONS AS REPORTED IN THE FINDINGS OF:
(I) (1) THE INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE'S REPORT "UNEQUAL
TREATMENT: CONFRONTING RACIAL AND ETHNIC DISPARITIES IN HEALTH CARE";
AND
(II) (2) THE SURGEON GENERAL'S "HEALTHY PEOPLE 2020"
REPORT.
(2) (B) THE COURSES OR SPECIAL SEMINARS REQUIRED DESCRIBED
UNDER PARAGRAPH (1) OF THIS SUBSECTION SUBSECTION (A) OF THIS SECTION
SHALL ADDRESS, WITH CULTURAL COMPETENCE, SENSITIVITY, AND HEALTH
LITERACY THE ISSUE OF. HEALTH CARE SERVICES DISPARITIES OF MINORITY
POPULATIONS IDENTIFIED BY:
(I) (1) RACE;
(II) (2) ETHNICITY;
(III) (3) POVERTY; AND
(IV) (4) GENDER
