2003 LAWS OF MARYLAND

(F) PENALTY.

A PERSON WHO VIOLATES THIS SECTION IS GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND
ON CONVICTION IS SUBJECT TO IMPRISONMENT NOT EXCEEDING 6 MONTHS OR A
FINE NOT EXCEEDING $100 OR BOTH.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 27, § 440.

In subsection (a)(2) of this section, the former reference to "Baltimore City"
is deleted in light of the definition of "county" in § 1-101 of this article.

In subsections (a)(7) and (e)(11) of this section, the reference to "federal
crimes" is substituted for the former reference to "offenses against the
criminal laws of the United States" for brevity.

In subsection (b) of this section, the defined term "police officer" is
substituted for the former phrase "member of a police force of the United
States or of this State or another state, of Baltimore City or of any county
or municipal corporation of the State or of another state" to use the defined
term. Similarly, in subsection (c) of this section, the defined term "police
officer" is substituted for the former phrase "members of the respective
police forces".

Also in subsection (b) of this section, the phrase "special police officer" is
substituted for the former reference to "special policeman" to conform to
terminology used in Subtitle 3 of this title.

In subsection (f) of this section, the former phrase "in the discretion of the
court" is deleted as implicit in the normal prerogatives of a court.

3-503. REGULATION OF SURVEILLANCE ACTIVITIES.

(A)     LEGISLATIVE POLICY.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS SECTION IS TO PRESERVE, PROMOTE, AND PROTECT
PUBLIC SAFETY AND PEACE IN THE STATE.

(B)     SCOPE OF SECTION.

THIS SECTION APPLIES TO AN AGENT, EMPLOYEE, OR REPRESENTATIVE OF
ANOTHER STATE OR A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF ANOTHER STATE WHO IS PRESENT
IN THIS STATE TO ENFORCE THE LAWS OF THE OTHER STATE.

(C)     REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

(1) A PERSON SUBJECT TO THIS SECTION SHALL REGISTER WITH THE
LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY DESIGNATED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF A COUNTY
WHEN THE PERSON ENTERS THE COUNTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF SURVEILLANCE OF
