It is recommended that the

newly-appointed Director of the
Governor's Office of Crime Control and
Prevention, with assistance of the
Department of Budget and Management
Division of Policy Analysis, conduct a
comprehensive study of the programs and
functions administered by the Office, to
include consideration of those functions of
the Office that should be retained,
abolished or reassigned within State
government. A report of this study's
findings and recommendations, as well as
any proposed legislation to effect the
recommended changes, should be
provided to the budget committees. The
report is due September 1, 2003. The
budget committees shall have 45 days to
review and comment.
