Speaker of the House
State House
Annapolis MD 21401
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed House Bill 681 - Commission of Juvenile Justice Jurisdiction - Extension of
Sunset.
This bill extends the termination date for the Commission on Juvenile Justice
Jurisdiction from September 30, 2000 to September 30, 2001. The commission must
submit a supplemental report updating the results of its investigation and study,
together with any resulting policy recommendations, to the Governor and the General
Assembly by September 30, 2001.
Senate Bill 614, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May
11, 2000, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign
House Bill 681.
Sincerely,
Parris N. Glendening
Governor
