THOSE sites, structures, and districts for the education and welfare of the residents of
[the county or municipal corporation] EACH LOCAL JURISDICTION.
DRAFTER'S NOTE: Former subsection (a)(3) of this section has been
renumbered subsection (a) of this section.
In subsection (c)(1) and (5) of this section, the defined term "local
jurisdiction" is substituted for the former reference to "county or municipal
corporation" for consistency throughout the article.
8.02. Power to designate boundaries for sites, structures, or districts.
For the purposes of this [subtitle] SUBTITLE, each [county and each municipal
corporation] LOCAL JURISDICTION may designate boundaries for sites, structures, or
districts which are deemed to be of historic, archeological, or architectural
significance, BY following the [procedure in such county or municipal corporation]
PROCEDURES OF THE LOCAL JURISDICTION [applicable to the establishment or
change of] FOR ESTABLISHING OR CHANGING areas and classifications of zoning.

substituted for the former reference "county or municipal corporation" for
consistency within the article.
8.03. Historic district commissions generally; report by Maryland Historical Trust.
(a) (1) A [county or a municipal corporation] LOCAL JURISDICTION may
create a [commission to be called "the historic] "HISTORIC district commission" or
["the historic] "HISTORIC preservation commission".
(2) (i) [The] A HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION OR HISTORIC
PRESERVATION commission shall have [a membership of no less than five persons]
AT LEAST FIVE MEMBERS.
(ii) Each member OF A HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION OR
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION shall possess a demonstrated special
interest, specific knowledge, or professional or academic training in such fields as
history, architecture, architectural history, planning, archeology, anthropology,
curation, conservation, landscape architecture, historic preservation, urban [design]
DESIGN, or related disciplines.
(iii) A majority of the members of [each] A HISTORIC DISTRICT
COMMISSION OR HISTORIC PRESERVATION commission shall be residents of the
[county or municipal corporation as the case may be] LOCAL JURISDICTION THAT
CREATED THE COMMISSION.
