SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 2000.
May 18, 2000
The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr.
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis MD 21401
Dear Mr. President:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed Senate Bill 618 - Correctional Officers' Retirement System - Transfer of
Service Credit from Employees' Pension System.
This bill authorizes a member of the Correctional Officers' Retirement System to
receive eligibility service credit for service transferred from the Employees' Pension
System (EPS) if the member was vested but the membership in the EPS was
terminated as a result of being laid off for nondisciplinary reasons. House Bill 404,
which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 11, 2000,
accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate
Bill 618.
Sincerely,
Parris N. Glendening
Governor
