J.R. 5 2000 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That a
voluntary statewide diversion goal of 40% by the year 2005 be established; and be it
further RESOLVED, That each county's diversion rate shall be defined as the sum of its
recycling rate, as calculated under the Maryland Recycling Act, plus up to 5% for
counties that qualify for a source reduction credit; and be it further RESOLVED, That the Maryland Department of the Environment determine
qualifications for the source reduction credit; and be it further RESOLVED, That the voluntary statewide diversion goal of 40% by the year
2005 will be accomplished through the cooperative efforts of waste generators, State
agencies, local governments, the waste industry, the recycling industry,
environmental groups, boards of education, and other interested parties; and be it
further RESOLVED, That the county mandatory recycling rates of 15% and 20%
established by the Maryland Recycling Act be maintained; and be it further RESOLVED, That counties are provided incentive to make the effort to recycle
all solid waste and to report all solid waste recycled to the Maryland Department of
the Environment; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Services to the Honorable Parris N. Glendening, Governor of Maryland;
the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and
the Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates. Signed May 18, 2000.
Joint Resolution No. 5
(Senate Joint Resolution No. 7) A Senate Joint Resolution concerning Creation of a U.S. Space and Flight Center in Maryland FOR the purpose of requesting the Maryland Delegation to Congress to actively
advocate and seek private sector, state and federal support, including funding,
for a site in Maryland to be designated as a U.S. Space and Flight Center, and
for the planning, design, and development of a space and flight center in Prince
George's County, Maryland stating that there is the need for a U.S. Space and
Flight Center to be established in Prince George's County, Maryland in
conjunction with the Goddard Space Flight Center and Andrews Air Force Base;
and urging the Maryland Delegation to Congress to seek federal support for the
establishment of the U.S. Space and Flight Center and the cooperation of the
Goddard Space Flight Center and Andrews Air Force Base.
