SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 2000. Approved May 18, 2000.
CHAPTER 581
(House Bill 231)
AN ACT concerning Higher Education - Student Financial Assistance and Scholarships FOR the purpose of allowing graduates of a high school outside of Maryland to be
eligible for a Guaranteed Access Grant under the Educational Excellence
Awards Program; allowing recipients of certain State scholarships, grants, or
awards to also hold certain other State scholarships, grants, or awards; making
certain recipients of a Maryland HOPE Scholarship or a Maryland teacher
scholarship that was awarded during a certain period eligible for certain student
financial assistance; requiring Maryland residency as a condition of eligibility
for the Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship and tuition assistance for
career or volunteer firefighter, ambulance or rescue squad members; requiring
enrollment in a degree-granting or terminal certificate program as a condition
of eligibility for the Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship; repealing the
requirement that the service obligation of recipients of Economic Development
Student Assistant Grants awarded to train physical therapists, physical therapy
assistants, occupational therapists, and occupational therapy assistants be
served in a school or State therapeutic hospital; allowing graduates of a high
school outside of Maryland to be eligible for a Maryland HOPE Scholarship; and
generally relating to student financial assistance and scholarships. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
