CHAPTER 358
(House Bill 314) AN ACT concerning Health Occupations - Renaming the State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors FOR the purpose of renaming the State Board of Examiners of Professional
Counselors to the State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, Alcohol
and Drug Counselors, Clinical Marriage and Family Therapists, and Clinical

Professional Counselors Professional Counselors and Therapists; defining a
certain term; altering certain definitions; making stylistic changes; and
generally relating to professional counselors; alcohol and drug counselors,
clinical marriage and family therapists, and clinical professional counselors and
therapists. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - Health Occupations Section 17-101; 17-201 and 17-206(a) and (c) to be under the amended subtitle
"Subtitle 2. State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, Alcohol
and Drug Counselors, Clinical Marriage and Family Therapists, and
Clinical Professional Counselors
Professional Counselors and Therapists";
and 17-312(b)(5) and 17-501 to be under the amended title "Title 17.
Professional Counselors, Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Clinical Marriage
and Family Therapists, and Clinical Professiona
l Counselors and
Therapists" Annotated Code of Maryland (1994 Replacement Volume and 1999 Supplement) SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article - Health Occupations Title 17. Professional Counselors, ALCOHOL AND DRUG COUNSELORS, CLINICAL
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPI
STS, AND CLINICAL PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS AND THERAPISTS. 17-101. (a) In this title the following words have the meanings indicated. (b) "Alcohol and drug counseling" means assisting an individual, family, or
group through the client-counselor relationship: (1) To develop understanding of intrapersonal and interpersonal
substance abuse problems;
