8-112. SAME — STANDARDS; REGULATIONS; STAFF.

(A) STANDARDS.

(1) THE COMMISSION SHALL:

(I) ADVISE THE SECRETARY REGARDING ALL MINIMUM
MANDATORY STANDARDS AND APPROVED STANDARDS FOR STATE AND LOCAL
CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES;

(II) CONSULT AND COORDINATE WITH NATIONAL BODIES
PROMULGATING CORRECTIONAL STANDARDS TO PROVIDE REASONABLE
COMPATIBILITY BETWEEN THE STATE STANDARDS AND NATIONALLY ESTABLISHED
STANDARDS; AND

(III) CONSULT AND COOPERATE WITH OTHER UNITS OF THE STATE
AND LOCAL JURISDICTIONS CONCERNING CORRECTIONAL STANDARDS.

(2) THE COMMISSION MAY PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE
EXTENT AUTHORIZED IN THE STATE BUDGET TO AID THE STATE AND LOCAL
JURISDICTIONS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO COMPLY WITH MINIMUM MANDATORY
STANDARDS AND APPROVED STANDARDS.

(B) REGULATIONS.

THE COMMISSION SHALL ADOPT REGULATIONS TO CARRY OUT THIS SUBTITLE.

(C) STAFF.

THE COMMISSION SHALL EMPLOY A STAFF NECESSARY TO CARRY OUT THIS
SUBTITLE AS PROVIDED IN THE STATE BUDGET.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 41, § 4-401(d)(l), (2), (8), (10), (11), and (12).

In subsection (a)(1) and (2) of this section, the reference to the defined term
"minimum mandatory standards" is substituted for the former references
to "mandatory ... standards" for consistency throughout this subtitle. See §
8-101 of this subtitle for the definition of "minimum mandatory
standards".

In subsection (a)(1)(i) of this section, the former reference to standards
"which ... [the Secretary] is authorized to adopt" is deleted as implicit in
the references to the defined terms "minimum mandatory standards" and
"approved standards".

In subsection (a)(l)(iii) of this section, the reference to "units" of the State
and local jurisdictions is substituted for the former list of specific unit
types, i.e., departments and agencies, for brevity. See General Revisor's
Note to this article.

In subsection (a)(2) of this section, the reference to "State and. local
jurisdictions" is substituted for the former reference to "various
