(1) COMPENSATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STATE BUDGET; AND

(2) REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXPENSES UNDER THE STANDARD STATE
TRAVEL REGULATIONS, AS PROVIDED IN THE STATE BUDGET.

(B) INCREASE IN COMPENSATION.

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY MAY PROVIDE FOR AN INCREASE IN THE
COMPENSATION OF COMMISSIONERS DURING THEIR TERMS IN THE SAME
PROPORTION AS ANY AVERAGE COMPENSATION INCREASE AWARDED TO STATE
EMPLOYEES GENERALLY.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 41, § 4-502(e).

In subsections (a)(1) and (b) of this section, the references to
"compensation" are substituted as standard language for the former
references to "annual salary" and "salary". See General Revisor's Note to
this article.

In subsection (a)(2) of this section, the phrase "under the Standard State
Travel Regulations" is substituted as standard language for the former
phrase "incurred in the actual performance of his duties".

7-204. STAFF; HEARING EXAMINERS.

(A) STAFF.

(1) THE COMMISSION SHALL APPOINT THE STAFF NECESSARY TO
PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE COMMISSION.

(2) THE ACTIVITIES OF THE STAFF MAY NOT DUPLICATE OR CONFLICT
WITH THE FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES OF THE DIVISION OF PAROLE AND PROBATION.

(3) EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY LAW, THE STAFF IS SUBJECT
TO THE PROVISIONS OF TITLE 6, SUBTITLE 4 OF THE STATE PERSONNEL AND
PENSIONS ARTICLE.

(B) HEARING EXAMINERS.

(1) (I) THE SECRETARY MAY APPOINT THE HEARING EXAMINERS
NECESSARY TO CONDUCT PAROLE RELEASE HEARINGS UNDER PARAGRAPH (2) OF
THIS SUBSECTION, AS PROVIDED IN THE STATE BUDGET.

(II) EACH HEARING EXAMINER SHALL;

1. BE APPOINTED WITHOUT REGARD TO POLITICAL

AFFILIATION;

2. BE A RESIDENT OF THE STATE; AND

3. HAVE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE IN LAW, SOCIOLOGY,
PSYCHOLOGY, PSYCHIATRY, EDUCATION, SOCIAL WORK, OR CRIMINOLOGY
