(10) (11) a representative of the Baltimore Teachers Union appointed by
the Governor;
(11) (12) a local board of education president member appointed by the
Governor;
(12) (13) a school superintendent appointed by the Governor;
(14) a chief financial officer of a local school system appointed by the
Governor;
(13) (15) a representative two representatives of the Maryland
Association of Counties, one representing an urban county and one representing a
rural county, appointed by the Governor;
(14) (16) the Chancellor of the University System of Maryland;
(15) (17) the president of a private college located in the State appointed
by the Governor;
(16) (18) two a chief executive officers officer of companies a company
operating in the State, appointed by the Governor; and
(17) (19) two a chief financial officers officer of companies a company
operating in the State, nominated by the Maryland Business Round Table and
appointed by the Governor;
(20) a representative of a group that advocates for public education,
nominated by the State Superintendent of Schools and appointed by the Governor; and
(21) a parent of a student who attends a public school in Maryland,
nominated by the State Superintendent of Schools and appointed by the Governor.
(d) To the extent practicable, the Governor shall attempt to ensure regional,
ethnic, economic, and gender diversity on the Commission.
(e) The State Board of Education and the Department of Legislative Services
shall provide staff support to the Commission.
(f) (1) The Commission shall provide an interim report of its findings and
recommendations to the Governor and, in accordance with § 2-1246 of the State
Government Article, to the General Assembly by January 1, 2000.
(2) The Commission shall provide a final report of its findings and
recommendations to the Governor and, in accordance with § 2-1246 of the State
Government Article, to the General Assembly by October 15, 2000.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1999.
