CHAPTER 535
(Senate Bill 271)

AN ACT concerning

Electricity - Net Energy Metering - Public Schools

FOR the purpose of adding certain public schools and educational institutions to the
classes of electric customer that may use net energy metering in connection with
solar electric generation.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Public Utility Companies

7-306.

(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.
(2) "Eligible customer-generator" means a customer that:

(i) is served by an electric company at:

1. a single-family dwelling which is:

[1.] A. a residence of the customer on a residential service

tariff; or

[2.] B. the principal residence of the customer on a general

service tariff;

2. A PUBLIC OR NONPUBLIC ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY

SCHOOL; OR

3. A PUBLIC OR NONPUBLIC INSTITUTION OF
POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION; and

(ii) owns and operates a solar electrical generating facility that:

1. has a capacity of not more than 80 kilowatts;

2. is located on the customer's premises;

3. is interconnected and operated in parallel with an electric
company's transmission and distribution facilities; and
