3-1407. UNIFORMITY OF INTERPRETATION.

THIS SUBTITLE SHALL BE SO INTERPRETED AND CONSTRUED AS TO
EFFECTUATE ITS GENERAL PURPOSE TO MAKE UNIFORM THE LAW OF THOSE
STATES THAT ENACT IT.

3-1408. SHORT TITLE.

THIS SUBTITLE MAY BE CITED AS THE MARYLAND UNIFORM CONTRIBUTION
AMONG JOINT TORT-FEASORS ACT.

change from former Art. 50, § 23.

3-1409. SEVERABILITY.

IF ANY PROVISION OF THIS SUBTITLE OR THE APPLICATION OF THIS SUBTITLE
TO ANY PERSON OR CIRCUMSTANCES IS HELD INVALID, THE INVALIDITY MAY NOT
AFFECT OTHER PROVISIONS OR APPLICATIONS OF THE SUBTITLE THAT CAN BE
GIVEN EFFECT WITHOUT THE INVALID PROVISIONS OR APPLICATION, AND TO THIS
END THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBTITLE ARE DECLARED TO BE SEVERABLE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section formerly was Art. 50, § 24.

The phrase "of this subtitle" is substituted for the former word "thereof for
clarity.

The phrase "may not" is substituted for the former phrase "shall not" to
conform to the style of revised articles of the Code for expressing a
prohibition.

No other changes are made.
5-305.1. RELEASE OR SETTLEMENT OF CLAIM BY INJURED INDIVIDUAL.

(A) VOIDABILITY OF RELEASE.

A RELEASE OF THE CLAIM OF AN INJURED INDIVIDUAL FOR DAMAGES
RESULTING FROM A TORT, SIGNED BY THE INJURED INDIVIDUAL WITHIN 5 DAYS OF
THE INFLICTION OF THE INJURIES, AND ANY POWER OF ATTORNEY TO OR
CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENT WITH AN ATTORNEY AT LAW, WITH REFERENCE TO
RECOVERY OF DAMAGES FOR THE TORT, SIGNED BY THE INDIVIDUAL WITHIN 5
DAYS AFTER THE INFLICTION OF THE INJURIES, SHALL BE VOIDABLE WITHIN 60
DAYS AT THE OPTION OF THE INJURED INDIVIDUAL.

(B) RESTRICTIONS ON SETTLEMENT, RELEASE, OR STATEMENTS OF INJURED
INDIVIDUALS.
