S.B. 594

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed Senate Bill 594.

This bill increases the salaries of certain officials in Frederick County. These increases do
not apply until the next term of office.

House Bill 1096, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 8,
1997, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate
Bill 594.

AN ACT concerning

Frederick County - Orphans' Court Judges, State's Attorney, Treasurer, and Sheriff -

Salary Adjustments

FOR the purpose of increasing the salaries of the State's Attorney, County Treasurer,
Sheriff, and Orphans' Court Judges for Frederick County; providing that this Act
may not be construed to increase or diminish the salary or compensation of the
incumbent or any future State's Attorney for Frederick County during the term of
office as State's Attorney; providing that this Act does not apply to the salary or
compensation of the incumbent County Treasurer, Sheriff, and Orphans' Court
Judges for Frederick County during the terms of offices as County Treasurer,
Sheriff, and Orphans' Court Judges for Frederick County; and generally relating to
the salaries and compensation of public officials in Frederick County.
