PARRIS N. GLENDENING, Governor

S.B. 371

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed Senate Bill 371.

This bill provides that the Governor must include in the annual budget bill a proposed
general fund appropriation to the Maryland Tourism Development Board of $4 million in
Fiscal Year 1999, $5 million in Fiscal Year 2000, and $6 million in Fiscal Year 2001. The
Office of Tourism Development must spend in each of these years a specified portion of
their budget appropriation on tourism advertising and promotion.

House Bill 685, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 8,
1997, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate
Bill 371.

Sincerely,

Parris N. Glendening

Governor
