WHEREAS, The thorough review of all aspects of the complex issue of Holocaust
assets is an important step towards justly compensating Holocaust victims and their
survivors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Maryland General Assembly supports and encourages the ongoing efforts of the United
States Senate, the United States Department of State, and the various private
organizations who are actively working to ensure that assets wrongly held by Swiss banks
be returned to Holocaust victims who are the rightful owners of the assets; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Reference to the Honorable Madeline Madeleine K. Albright, Secretary of
State; the Honorable Alfonse M. D'Amato, Chairman of the United States Senate
Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee; the Honorable Parris N. Glendening,
Governor of Maryland; the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the
Senate of Maryland; and the Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr., Speaker of the House of
Delegates.

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Judicial Compensation Commission Report

FOR the purpose of proposing an alteration to the compensation of the members of the
Judiciary in this State, pursuant to Section 1-708 of the Courts and Judicial
Proceedings Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

WHEREAS, Section 1-708(b)(2) of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article of
the Annotated Code of Maryland establishes a 7-member Judicial Compensation
Commission appointed by the Governor with 2 members appointed on nomination of the
President of the Senate, 2 members appointed on nomination of the Speaker of the
House of Delegates, 1 member appointed on nomination of the Maryland Bar
Association, and 2 members appointed at large. The Judicial Compensation Commission
is constituted as follows: appointments made on the nomination of the President of the
Senate: John Paterakis and Elizabeth Buck; appointments made on the nomination of the
Speaker of the House of Delegates: Bruce A. Kaufman and Charles R. Jenkins, Sr.;
appointment made on the nomination of the Maryland Bar Association: J. Michael
Conroy, Jr.; appointments at large: Elizabeth S. Morrison and Alice G. Pinderhughes.
The Commission members elected Bruce A. Kaufman, Chairman; and

WHEREAS, Section 1-708(d) of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article of the
Annotated Code of Maryland provides as follows: the General Assembly may amend this
Joint Resolution to decrease any of the Commission's salary recommendations, but no
