1997 LAWS OF MARYLAND

(ii) is subject to the provisions of the State Personnel and Pensions
Article that govern [classified] SKILLED service employees.

(e)     (1) Subject to the approval of the Governor, the Commissioner may appoint
a Chief Mediator who shall be [ in the unclassified service of] A SPECIAL APPOINTMENT
IN the State Personnel Management System.

(f)      (2) Each safety inspector:

(ii) is subject to the provisions of the State Personnel and Pensions
Article that govern [classified] SKILLED service employees, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF
SPECIAL APPOINTMENTS.

(g)     (2) Except as provided in this section or otherwise by law, all other staff is in
the [classified] SKILLED SERVICE OR PROFESSIONAL service [of], WITH THE
EXCEPTION OF SPECIAL APPOINTMENTS, IN the State Personnel Management System.

8-303.

(d) (1) The head of the Office of Employment Services is the Director who shall
be appointed by the Secretary in accordance with:

(i) the provisions of the State Personnel and Pensions Article [that
govern classified service employees]; and

8-305.

(b) (1) In accordance with the provisions of the State Personnel and Pensions
Article [that govern classified service employees], the Secretary may employ the staff
necessary to carry out this title.

9-305.

(a)     (2) Except as otherwise provided by law, the staff is in the [classified service
of the] State Personnel Management System.

10-113.

(b)     (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, employees of the
Fund are [unclassified] SPECIAL APPOINTMENTS.

(2) A classified employee of the Fund hired before July 1, 1990 in a
nonprofessional or nontechnical position shall remain a member of the classified service
OR ITS EQUIVALENT IN THE STATE PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM as long as the
employee remains in a nonprofessional or nontechnical position with the Fund.

(c)     (1) [The] EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY LAW, THE Board shall
set compensation for its employees [who are in the unclassified service].

(d)     (2) [An unclassified] A SPECIAL APPOINTMENT employee of the Fund
may not be permanently removed unless:

(i) written charges are filed;
