AN ACT concerning
Deep Water Wells - Effect on Aquifers Supplying Homeowner Wells - Department of the
Environment Natural Resources to Study and Report
FOR the purpose of requiring the Department of the Environment Natural Resources to
conduct a study of deep water wells of private water supply ventures or companies
and the effects they have on the amount availability of water remaining in the from
aquifers that supply individual or homeowner wells; requiring the Department to
report to the General Assembly on or before a certain date; and generally relating
to the effect of deep water wells on the aquifers that supply individual or
homeowner wells.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Department of the Environment shall conduct a study of deep
water wells of private water supply ventures or companies. The study shall consider the
effects of the deep water wells on the amount of water remaining in the aquifers that
supply individual or homeowner wells. The Department shall report its findings to the
General Assembly on or before December 31, 1997, in accordance with § 2-1312 of the
State Government Article.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Department of Natural Resources shall conduct a study of deep
water wells of private water supply ventures or companies within the Winter's Run
drainage basin. The study shall consider the effects of deep water wells with the potential
to withdraw more than 50,000 gallons per day on the ability of the aquifers to supply
existing individual or homeowner wells. The Department shall report its findings to the
General Assembly on or before December 31, 1998, in accordance with § 2-1312 of the
State Government Article.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1997.
