AN ACT concerning

Certified Interior Designers - Continuing Education Requirements

FOR the purpose of altering the continuing education requirements that a certified
interior designer must meet to quality for renewal of a certificate; and generally
relating to continuing education requirements for certified interior designers.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

8-308.

(a)     (1) To qualify for renewal of a certificate under this subtitle, a certificate
holder shall earn during each 2-year certificate term at least [ 2 continuing education
units in courses] ONE CONTINUING EDUCATION UNIT IN TWO OR MORE COURSES
that the Board approves.

(2) A continuing education unit consists of 10 hours of study.

(b)     [Notwithstanding subsection (a) of this section, if a certificate is granted to a]
A certificate holder WHO IS GRANTED A CERTIFICATE during the second year of a
certificate term[, the certificate holder] may renew the certificate for the next full term
[without complying with the continuing education requirements of the previous term as
outlined in this section] IF THE CERTIFICATE HOLDER EARNS AT LEAST ONE-HALF
OF A CONTINUING EDUCATION UNIT IN ONE OR MORE COURSES THAT THE BOARD
APPROVES.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1997.
