PARRIS N. GLENDENING, Governor                             Ch. 644

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the common law offense
of criminal defamation is hereby
abrogated and repealed.

SECTION 3. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1997.

AN ACT concerning

Comptroller — Aunual Grants — Great Pocomokc Fair

FOR the purpose of requiring the Comptroller to pay, from a certain special fund, an
annua] grant not to exceed a certain amount to the Great Pocomoke Fair, Inc. to
support exhibition harness racing with money for new stalls, track maintenance, and
purses; making a certain technical correction; and generally relating to annual
grants awarded to certain persons by the Comptroller.

BY repealing and reenacting, without amendments.

(1)     the Elkridge-Harford Point to Point;

(2)     the Grand National;

(3)     the Marlboro Trials;

(4)     the Maryland Hunt Cup;
