CHAPTER 340

AN ACT concerning

(Senate Bill 261)

Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Salary

FOR the purpose of increasing the annual salary of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County;
providing that this Act does not apply to the salary or compensation of the
incumbent Sheriff; and generally relating to the salary of the Sheriff of Anne
Arundel County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

(c) (1) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall receive a salary of:

(i) [$44,500] $48,700 in calendar year [1995] 1998;

(ii) [$45,900] $50,100 $55,000 $52,550 in calendar year [1996] 1999;

(iii) $54,5025 IN CALENDAR YEAR 2000;

(IV) $55,540 IN CALENDAR YEAR 2001; and

(V) $57,100 IN CALENDAR YEAR 2002 [$47,300] $51,500 in calendar year
[1997] 2000; and

(iv) [$48,700] $52,900 in calendar year [1998] 2001 and thereafter. IN
CALENDAR YEAR 2000 AND EACH YEAR THEREAFTER, AN AMOUNT THAT EQUALS
THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S SALARY PLUS 2.8 PERCENT OF THAT SALARY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County in office on
the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall take effect at the beginning of
the next following term of office.
