Ch. 259

Any person who violates subsection (b) of this section is guilty of a
misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $2,500, imprisonment
not exceeding 6 months, or both.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1997.

AN ACT concerning

Business Occupations - State Board of Cosmetologists - Membership

FOR the purpose of altering the number of members on the State Board of
Cosmetologists; altering the total number of members on the State Board of
Cosmetologists; altering the number of members on the State Board of Cosmetologists
who shall be licensed cosmetologists; requiring one member of the State Board of
Cosmetologists to be affiliated with a private cosmetology school as an educator or
owner; making stylistic changes; and generally relating to the membership of the
State Board of Cosmetologists.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Business Occupations and Professions

5-202.

(a) (1) The Board consists of [5] SIX FIVE SEVEN members.

(2) Of the [5] SIX FIVE SEVEN members of the Board:

(i) [3] THREE TWO FOUR shall be licensed cosmetologists: [and]

(II) ONE SHALL BE AFFILIATED WITH A PRIVATE COSMETOLOGY
SCHOOL AS AN EDUCATOR OR OWNER; AND

[(ii)] (III) [2] TWO shall be consumer members.

(3) The Governor shall appoint the members with the advice of the
