(v) Be consistent with 49 CFR, Parts 40 and 382, with respect to
alcohol and drug testing regulations applicable to drivers of:

1. Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 26,000

pounds;

2. Vehicles transporting hazardous materials of a type and
quantity requiring placarding; and

3. Vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers,

including the driver.

(3) The rules or regulations adopted under this subsection may require that
registrants of motor vehicles subject to this subsection have knowledge of applicable
federal and State motor carrier safety regulations.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1997.

FOR the purpose of including certain symbols as pedestrian control signal indications
under the State's vehicle laws; defining the meaning of and required responses to
certain pedestrian control signals; and generally relating to pedestrian control signal
indications.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

21-202.

(a) (1) Except for special pedestrian signals that carry a [word] legend, where
traffic is controlled by traffic control signals that show different colored lights or colored
lighted arrows, whether successively one at a time or in combination, only the colors
green, red, and yellow may be used.
