(b)] (A) [The] AS OF THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF WITHDRAWAL OF A
PARTICIPATING GOVERNMENTAL UNIT, THE Board of Trustees shall transfer to the
administrative board of the local pension system the portion of the [reserves] ASSETS
that are allocable to the withdrawn employees AS DETERMINED UNDER § 21-305.5, §
21-305.6, OR § 21-306 OF THIS ARTICLE.
[(c)] (B) The administrative board of the local pension system shall hold the
transferred [reserves] ASSETS in trust to provide retirement benefits for the withdrawn
employees.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1996.

AN ACT concerning
Kent County - Office of the Sheriff
FOR the purpose of repealing obsolete provisions concerning the Office of the Sheriff of
Kent County, including a certain limit on the number of deputy sheriffs that may be
appointed, a certain travel allowance that the Sheriff and Sheriff's deputies receive
from the County Commissioners, and the funding of a matron and a cook at the
County jail; making certain stylistic changes; and generally relating to the Office of
the Sheriff of Kent County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

2-309.
(p) (1) The Sheriff of Kent County shall receive a salary of $35,000 and, at the
discretion of the County Commissioners, county-owned automobiles as may be necessary
to operate the Sheriff's department. The Sheriff shall appoint a chief deputy sheriff who
shall receive a salary of at least $8,000. [ The Sheriff also may appoint not more than two
assistant deputies who shall receive salaries of at least $7,000. The Sheriff and his
deputies shall receive an allowance set by the County Commissioners for mileage traveled
in the course of their duties. It shall be paid at the same rate as other county officials and
