1996 LAWS OF MARYLAND

(2)     HAVE COMPLETED NOT LESS THAN 3 YEARS, WITH A MINIMUM OF
200 2000 HOURS OF SUPERVISED EXPERIENCE IN ALCOHOL AND DRUG THERAPY
COUNSELING APPROVED BY THE BOARD, 2 YEARS OF WHICH SHALL HAVE BEEN
COMPLETED AFTER THE AWARD OF THE BACHELOR'S DEGREE;

(3)     HAVE A MINIMUM OF 300 20 CREDIT HOURS IN ALCOHOL AND DRUG
COUNSELOR TRAINING AS DEFINED IN § 17-302.3(D)(4) OF THIS TITLE; AND

(4)     PRACTICE DRUG AND ALCOHOL ALCOHOL AND DRUG THERAPY
COUNSELING UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL
COUNSELOR-DRUG AND ALCOHOL ALCOHOL AND DRUG THERAPIST OR PROVIDE
DRUG AND ALCOHOL THERAPY AS AN EMPLOYEE OF AN AGENCY OR FACILITY
WHICH IS ACCREDITED BY THE JOINT COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF HEALTH
CARE ORGANIZATIONS OR THAT IS CERTIFIED UNDER TITLE 8, SUBTITLE
4 OF THE
HEALTH
GENERAL ARTICLE ANOTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDER APPROVED BY
THE BOARD.

17-302.5.

TO QUALIFY AS A CERTIFIED ASSOCIATE SUPERVISED COUNSELOR-DRUG AND
ALCOHOL
ALCOHOL AND DRUG THERAPIST AN APPLICANT SHALL:

(1)     HOLD AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE IN A HEALTH OR HUMAN SERVICES
COUNSELING HELD OR HAVE COMPLETED A PROGRAM OF STUDIES JUDGED BY THE
BOARD TO BE SUBSTANTIALLY EQUIVALENT IN SUBJECT MATTER TO SUCH A
PROGRAM OF STUDIES;

(2)     HAVE A CERTIFICATE IN CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY COUNSELING
FROM AN ACCREDITED EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION APPROVED BY THE BOARD;

(3)     (2) HAVE COMPLETED NOT LESS THAN 2 YEARS, WITH A MINIMUM
OF 2,000 HOURS OF SUPERVISED EXPERIENCE IN DRUG AND ALCOHOL ALCOHOL
AND DRUG THERAPY COUNSELING APPROVED BY THE BOARD, 1 YEAR OF WHICH
SHALL HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AFTER THE AWARD OF THE ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE;

(4)     (3) HAVE A MINIMUM OF 240 15 CREDIT HOURS IN DRUG AND
ALCOHOL
ALCOHOL AND DRUG THERAPY COUNSELING TRAINING AS DEFINED IN §
17-302.3(D)(4) OF THIS TITLE; AND

(5) (4) PRACTICE DRUG AND ALCOHOL ALCOHOL AND DRUG
THERAPY COUNSELING UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL
COUNSELOR-DRUG AND ALCOHOL ALCOHOL AND DRUG THERAPIST OR ANOTHER
HEALTH CARE PROVIDER APPROVED BY THE BOARD AND PROVIDE DRUG AND
ALCOHOL
ALCOHOL AND DRUG THERAPY COUNSELING AS AN EMPLOYEE OF AN
AGENCY OR FACILITY WHICH IS ACCREDITED BY THE JOINT COMMISSION ON
ACCREDITATION OF HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS OR THAT IS CERTIFIED UNDER
TITLE 8, SUBTITLE 4 OF THE HEALTH - GENERAL ARTICLE

(a) Subject to the provisions of this section, the Board may waive any examination
requirement of this title for an applicant who:
