AN ACT concerning
Charles County - County Appropriation to Physicians Memorial Hospital
FOR the purpose of eliminating a requirement that the County Commissioners of Charles
County appropriate each year a specified sum relating to the operation of a certain
hospital; providing for the authority for the County Commissioners to appropriate
an amount determined by the County Commissioners; making stylistic changes; and
generally relating to county funding of hospital facilities in Charles County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 9 - Charles County
27-9.
A. Operation and control; appropriation. The County Commissioners [of
Charles County are authorized to] MAY construct, maintain and operate a hospital or
hospitals in [said] THE county. The operation and control may be exercised through a
Board of Trustees appointed by the County Commissioners, and [said] THE
Commissioners may appropriate such sums as may be necessary for the proper operation
of [said] THE hospital facilities.
B. Agreement for operation by nonprofit organization; appropriation. In lieu of
the operation of a hospital as provided above, the County Commissioners may enter into
an agreement with any nonprofit organization whereby the operation of [said] THE
hospital will be delegated to [said] THE nonprofit organization, using the buildings and
premises of the County Commissioners under such terms and conditions as the parties
may agree upon[, and the]. THE County Commissioners [shall] MAY appropriate
annually to the operating organization [the sum of eight thousand five hundred dollars
($8,500.) and such other sums as] AN AMOUNT THAT the County Commissioners may
deem necessary.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1996.
