AN ACT concerning

Vehicle Laws - Abandoned Vehicles - Retention by Police for Public Purposes

FOR the purpose of authorizing a police department that takes an abandoned vehicle
into custody to retain the vehicle for public purposes under certain circumstances;
providing that the failure of certain persons to take certain actions shall be deemed
to be consent by the owner or lessor, other than a lessor, to retention of the vehicle
for public purposes; requiring the police department to provide a certain notice to
the registered owner and the secured party under certain circumstances; requiring
the written consent of a secured party or lessor under certain circumstances before
the vehicle may be retained by the police department for public purposes; providing
that an abandoned vehicle retained for public use may not be dismantled or
disassembled for its parts; providing for the disposition of the vehicle when it is no
longer usable for public purposes; making stylistic changes; defining a certain term;
and generally relating to the retention of abandoned vehicles by police departments
for public purposes.
