PARRIS N. GLENDENING, Governor

H.B. 601

Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis MD 21401

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed House Bill 601.

This bill requires the clerks of the circuit courts to keep divorce decrees readily accessible
in some permanent form. Further, it abolishes the $1 fee for recording divorces and the
$100 fine a clerk is subject to for failure to record a divorce.

Senate Bill 294, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 9,
1995, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House
Bill 601.

Sincerely,

Parris N. Glendening

Governor

House Bill No. 601
