(II) THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SHALL APPROVE THE SALARIES
FOR ALL STAFF APPOINTED BY THE SHERIFF.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1995.

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed Senate Bill 470.

This amended bill provides that in Caroline County three members of each fire company
may be designated to be appointed Deputy Sheriffs and serve as fire police. However, the
Caroline County Sheriff need not appoint them as deputies.

House Bill 762, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on April 11,
1995, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate
Bill 470.

AN ACT concerning

Caroline County - Sheriff - Appointment of Fire Company Members as Deputy Sheriffs

FOR the purpose of allowing the Sheriff of Caroline County to appoint certain members
of certain fire companies as deputy sheriffs; authorizing the fire company members
appointed as deputy sheriffs to exercise the same authority as other Caroline
County deputy sheriffs under certain circumstances; and generally relating to the
appointment of deputy sheriffs in Caroline County.

Section 49, 50, 51, and 53(a)
